Passionate Storytelling Through Beautiful Imagery

Wells and High-Efficiency Stoves in Uganda

Access to Clean Drinking Water

In partnership with the Adobe Foundation, International Lifeline Fund (ILF), Blue Planet Network, and my photo partner Rudi Dundas, we documented the impact of clean drinking water on the lives of refugees and other vulnerable people in the Lango Sub-region of Uganda. This is an agricultural region where the main source of drinking water is stagnant pools, leading to high levels of endemic diarrhea and generally poor health.

Stoves Improve Health and Reduce Deforestation

A secondary goal of this partnership was to document International Lifeline Fund’s fuel-efficient stove program. ILF has set up production centers in Kampala and Lira, Uganda, and has fostered a vibrant commercial market for these stoves through the creation of a sales force of three dozen female micro-entrepreneurs. The high-efficiency stoves use charcoal or biomass more effectively, reducing deforestation. They also produce less smoke which improves the health and well-being of rural Ugandans.

Wells and Economic Development in Samburu Kenya

Accessing Clean Drinking Water.

The Samburu are a pastoral nomadic tribal community of over 150,000 people where women and children walk up to 12 miles every day in search of often unsanitary water dug from dry river beds or gathered from stagnant pools. In collaboration with the Adobe Foundation, The Samburu Project, Blue Planet Network, and my partner Rudi Dundas we developed a project to document the impact of clean drinking water on the lives of the Samburu people located in an arid, remote area of Northern Kenya. Once consistent access to water is available The Samburu Project also supports economic development through agricultural initiatives. They are especially concerned with women entrepreneurs and supporting girls going to school.

Wells in West Bengal India

Access to clean, safe drinking water.

Groundwater in West Bengal India is contaminated by arsenic. Ingesting arsenic through drinking water causes many serious and often fatal health consequences, including various cancers, lung diseases, diabetes, and reproductive problems. Based on traditional dugwell designs that are familiar to villagers, these wells are inexpensive and easy to maintain. Project Well makes these water sources sustainable by developing community-based programs so users take responsibility for their own wells. Together with their local partner Aqua Welfare Society, Project Well continually monitors their water projects so they can address problems immediately and make sure villagers can continue to use the wells.

Adobe Foundation Grants: Water & Sanitation Health Projects in Africa
I am honored to have received two grants from the Adobe Foundation to document critical water and sanitation health projects in Kenya and Uganda.

The Face of Water: A Traveling Exhibition
In partnership with fellow photographer Rudi Dundas and The Samburu Project, we developed a traveling exhibition called "The Face of Water." Proceeds from these shows have so far grossed over $80,000, providing approximately 50,000 people with access to clean drinking water.

Through these passion projects, Majors Creative aims to leverage the art of visual storytelling to create a lasting impact. I am not just capturing images; I am engaging change.
